Finished Floor
This project is an 1,800 square foot commercial project completed by Joe Sheehan’s installation company, Garage Floor 1, in the Minneapolis -St. Paul, Minnesota area.
Two significant challenges were the old coatings removal and a new surface within a 2 day time period. Resurfacing the floor with 4 coats of One Day Floors Pure Bred Polyaspartic was achievable. Getting 3 layers of sticky carpet glue off the floorwasthe biggest unkown in the schedule. Grinding the floor after the glue removal was a bit more predictable. Thesolution to the coatings removal was One Day floors proprietary diamonds on a high torque grinder.
Removal required a variable speed floor grinder at a fairly low speed removing the mastic layers without creating friction and heat. The only way to do this is with a floor machine with lots of low end torque.
ODF Diamonds

As you can see in the photos, the mastic was super sticky. It stuck to the wheels of the grinder and also caked up on sneakers. We worked though it. Garage Floor 1’s Tony DeHaven powered through the project and the coatings removal process was complete within 5-6 hours. Then Tony was able to focus on grinding the concrete surface to a clean porous surface free of any contaminents and potential bond breakers in the floor.

The entire coatings removal process took a solid 12 hour day and maybe a little more. The grinding process was the only solution. Shotblasting was not cost effective and liquid strippers would have taken too long.
The next day Joe, Tony and John applied 4 coats of ODF Spartic finishing the applications in 1 day. Entire project from start to finish including coatings removal and 4 coats of ODF Pure Bred Polyaspartic was complete in 2 days.
